Reading Buddies connects dedicated volunteers with Afghan refugee students to help build confidence, improve reading skills, and foster meaningful one-on-one connections. By becoming a Reading Buddy, you play an important role in supporting a child’s language development, cultural adjustment, and overall love of learning.
Volunteer Requirements:
Must be 15 years or older
Able to commit to at least 30 minutes per week
Comfortable reading aloud and engaging with elementary to high school students
Reliable internet connection for Zoom sessions
Patience, empathy, and enthusiasm for working with youth
Willingness to respect cultural differences and create a welcoming environment
Dependable and consistent in maintaining scheduled sessions
